Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Determine job requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
       
Element: Apply principles of WHS in a workplace
  • Identify basic WHS principles of hazard identification, risk assessment and control
  • Use understanding of WHS legislation as it applies in the workplace
       
Element: Carry out safety audit
  • Carry out regular safety audits in the area of responsibility in accordance with appropriate WHS standards
  • Document audit information in accordance with SOPs
       
Element: Identify WHS improvements
  • Raise WHS issues and suggestions for improvements with WHS representatives and committees as appropriate
  • Identify hazards and make recommendations for their control on the basis of safety audits or as required
  • Make contributions to safety improvements using SOPs
  • Identify WHS training needs and take action to respond to need
       
Element: Follow requirements of enterprise WHS program
  • Ensure requirements of the WHS program are satisfied within the area of responsibility, including required accident investigation and emergency procedures

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
